Salinas Regional Sports Authority Receives U.S. Soccer Foundation Grant

The Salinas Regional Sports Authority (SRSA) was awarded a $200,000 grant from The U.S. Soccer Foundation to support the development of the Salinas Regional Soccer Complex. The 42 acre site at the corner of E. Laurel Drive and Constitution Blvd. will include eight natural grass fields, two artificial turf fields, an indoor soccer arena, walking trails and outdoor sports courts for multiple sports. The grant money will be used for the construction of one of the two planned artificial turf soccer fields.

“We are pleased that the U.S Soccer Foundation has not only seen the inherent value of this important project, but how it can truly impact the lives of youth and families in the community that have limited space and opportunity for recreational activities,” commented Warren Wayland, President of SRSA. “Our hope is to engage youth early in soccer and other recreational activities that provide a productive, safe and healthy choice instead of gangs, violence or inactivity overall,” he added.

“The U.S. Soccer Foundation believes that every child should have the opportunity to enjoy the game of soccer in an environment that is safe and promotes positive development,” said Ed Foster-Simeon, president and CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation. “We are happy to support organizations that, through impactful community-based programs, harness the power of soccer to improve the well-being of children.”
